Kinematics (SUVAT)

Solve motion problems with constant acceleration.

How it works
The formula behind this calculator.

v = u + at; s = ut + ½at²; v² = u² + 2as

u
Initial velocity (m/s)
v
Final velocity (m/s)
a
Acceleration (m/s²)
t
Time (s)
s
Displacement (m)

SUVAT assumes constant acceleration. Pick the right equation for the unknowns you have. Sign convention matters (positive = up, etc.).

Example: Car brakes at 13 m/s² from 30 m/s → stops in 2.3 s, travels 34.6 m

Ref: Newtonian mechanics

Tips
  • 💡 SUVAT assumes constant acceleration. For free fall on Earth, a = 9.81 m/s² downward.
  • 💡 Sign convention matters: positive y is up, negative is down. Stick to one convention per problem.
