How it works
The formula behind this calculator.
FTP ≈ 0.95 × 20-min max power; W/kg = power / weight
- power
- Sustained power output (W)
- weight
- Body weight (kg)
Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is the highest power you can sustain for ~1 hour. W/kg normalizes for body weight across riders.
Example: FTP 250W at 75 kg → 3.33 W/kg (Cat 3 racer level)
Ref: Coggan (2003)
Tips
- 💡 Power (watts) is more accurate than heart rate for tracking fitness, since it's not affected by fatigue or caffeine.
- 💡 Average 1–2 watts per kilo of body weight is a solid recreational cyclist.
