Any positional numeral system works the same way: each digit times base^position, summed. The most common are 2, 8, 10, 16.

Example: FF (base 16) = 15ยท16 + 15 = 255 (base 10)

Tips
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Any base can be converted via base-10. The most common are 2 (binary), 8 (octal), 10 (decimal), 16 (hex).
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Bases above 36 need extra symbols (e.g. 0โ€“9 then Aโ€“Z for 36, then 0โ€“9, Aโ€“Z, aโ€“z for 62).
